Our Story
We believe that the products you put on your skin should be as natural, healthy and wholesome as the food you put in your mouth. Harnessing the earth’s magic in the form of cold-pressed plant extracts, our small batch, vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and all natural skin care products will nourish, enhance and soothe your wonderful skin.
Earth & Kin was founded in early September 2018, by Dorae Smith and Andrea Barras, and is now run solely by Dorae after Andrea’s immigration to the UK in early 2021. Driven by their combined desire to create truly natural skincare products that not only look and feel great, but work beautifully on your skin too, the Earth & Kin brand was born. Where possible, we try to support other local businesses and through our endeavours have been inspired by the amazing creative and entrepreneurial community around us.
We have witnessed with interest, and are passionate about the recent trend to ‘return to nature’ – we love the idea of ‘slow living’ – embracing mindfulness, movement and self care to balance out the stresses of modern day life on the body and soul.
Our products have been carefully developed, and each order is put together lovingly by hand, and with careful attention to detail. The ingredients we use are selected for their incredible benefits and skin enhancing properties, and each product is mixed and packaged in small batches to ensure optimum quality. We wanted the name of our brand to reflect what is important to us… EARTH represents our focus on providing products with all natural ingredients, as well as our dedication to reducing the impact we have on the environment where possible; KIN reflects our commitment to you – our customers, friends and family – you are the community we seek to serve and your support means the world to us – we’d love you to share your thoughts, feedback and photos on Instagram and Facebook using our dedicated hashtag #earthandkin
DORAE SMITH
Dorae is a creative, mom and qualified Homeopath and Naturopath, passionate about natural living. Having produced her own children’s skincare range, she’s perfectly equipped with the knowledge, passion and experience to head up the product development side of Earth & Kin, based in the Eastern Cape. Dorae’s understanding of each ingredient and it’s enhancing/healing properties, means that she’s amazing at designing products with more of what your skin needs, less of what it doesn’t! Email Dorae
ANDREA BARRAS
No longer formally part of Earth & Kin since immigrating with her husband and 3 daughters in early 2021, Andrea was integral in building the brand and laying the visual identity, marketing and packaging design foundations for the business. Andrea is a branding and design specialist, now based in the UK, who is passionate about entrepreneurship and serving a range of clients from all around the world.
